Plastic surgery is 21st Century haute couture

If you are a lovely transsexual in NYC like Amanda Lepore who spent all her money on surgery and drugs what the hell do you do on a Friday night if you don't feel like going out?
Do you head to Blockbuster with your wig scraped back in a pony tail and rent "Beaches" or do you just come to the conclusion that you have to go out and shake that enhanced booty? Just for the sake of keeping up the image?

This does however get me thinking. I wonder if the way we* perceive her through her image gives us a clue about who she really is. I recently read 'The Amanda Lepore Story as told by the Lady herself' on her website and I'm not sure what I had expected but it was nothing like it at all. This is partly proof of me being somewhat prejudice but I also believe that that is just what a lot of her art is about. It is impossible not to think or feel something about the photographs taken by David LaChapelle where Amanda is posing as different characters. This in turn becomes a part of how we* think of miss Lepore despite the fact that she is acting. Now don’t get me wrong, I really like this bitch. What I am trying to say is that now that I have read her own words I see much more than a cool transsexual underground club queen and the thought that she might enjoy staying at home on a friday night becomes more likely.
* Should be “I” but I like generalizing.
