Video Premiere: Neneh Cherry - Kong

Neneh Cherry, absolute icon, is back with Kong, her first new material in four years. It's both fantastic and jarring, heaven and hell. Produced by Four Tet and 3D from Massive Attack, it's a gorgeous slow burner filled with stabbing and piercing sounds over a mellow beat. Neneh's striking vocals tie it together and draws us in to her world of storytelling. Says Neneh:

Kong is an attempt at putting to words the ever growing disaster that is the displaced people of this world. The lyrics are trying to be personal and remembering the things that are easy to forget: the ordinary everyday lives, everyday loves, family, home left behind in deep pain trying to save life. Looking at the maps of Europe and the great West with all its promise of possibility....the lands that created all the misery in first place...

The visuals are equally as striking. Directed by Jenn Nkiru, who recently directed Beyoncé and Jay's Apes**t, it's a fabulous video filled with flawless cinematography. The juxtaposition of fashion like scenes and dark scenes from everyday life it really sets thoughts in motion of a comfortable life filled with beautiful things versus a life with no hope left. It's a stellar return and we cannot wait to see more.
