Premiere: Cher - Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight) [ABBA Cover]

With a career spanning six decades, Cher is an absolute treasure. Not to mention there's a Cher for everyone - dance, metal, 60's, disco, Academy award winning movie star. Now as the perfect tie in to her role in the new Mamma Mia movie - a full blown ABBA Cher! Her version of ABBA's iconic 1979 disco single Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight) is the first taster from her upcoming album Dancing Queen (out on September 28). Produced by longtime Cher collaborator Mark Taylor (Believe anyone?) we get maximum Cher throughout the song. Vocoder, layered vocals, a pulsating dance groove, stomp to the MAX. It's hard to do an ABBA cover and we really like that the production nods generously towards the perfect original but that Cher is so absolute front and center on the vocals. Her delivery is so unmistakably her and so focused it's like she'd jump out of the speakers for an impromptu live sessions if you just asked her. Too cool as well with her nod to Agnetha and Frida's iconic poses on the album cover. Fans from each decade since the mid-60's we're sure will find a treasure on the new album. Can you even imagine the next drag show you attend? Not to mention all the mashup's with Madonna's Hung Up?

Says Cher:

I’ve always liked ABBA and saw the original Mamma Mia musical on Broadway three times. After filming Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, I was reminded again of what great and timeless songs they wrote and started thinking ‘why not do an album of their music?’ The songs were harder to sing than I imagined but I’m so happy with how the music came out. I’m really excited for people to hear it. It’s a perfect time.
